Holistic massage can be a partial, or a whole body massage, (excluding the face and scalp). Nourishing oils are massaged into the body to create flexibility and relaxation. Gentle but firm acupressure may be applied if energy blocks are discovered in the body. The practitioner uses sense of touch to determine the correct amount of pressure to apply to each person and locate areas of tension and other soft-tissue problems. During holistic massage oxygen and nutrients are brought to the tissues more quickly improving the condition of the skin. Massage speeds up the removal of deoxygenated blood and waste products and this has the effect of relieving pain and stiffness of the muscles. This massage promotes general well-being and enhances self-esteem, while boosting the circulatory and immune systems to benefit blood pressure, circulation, muscle tone, digestion, and skin tone. Aromatherapy can be performed as a massage to the whole body including face and scalp, or can be a back, neck and shoulder massage. Alternatively, the client can request that a prescription be custom made for them to use at home, in the bath, as an inhalant or to massage into the skin. During a full body massage the client removes their clothing except for underwear and relaxes, covered by towels, on a couch. This therapy utilises different aromatic plant material in the form of pure essential oils, which have been specifically selected for the client and their ailments during consultation. These oils are massaged into the body and are absorbed through the skin, while the aromas stimulate the brain, thus promoting health and vitality. This type of massage involves firm but gentle stimulation of the Tsubo points which are similar to the acupuncture points, and have the effect of helping to remove blocked energy in the body, therefore encouraging good health. Hot Stone Massage Hot Stone Massage uses natural smooth basalt stones to give you the ultimate in luxurious massages. We are bringing the ancient art of hot basalt stone therapy into the 21st century by combining massage techniques with warm stone placement, to melt away the stresses, tension, aches and pains of modern living. The warmth from the ancient stones helps provide a deep and comforting massage allowing the body to totally relax. The client removes their clothing except for underwear and relaxes, covered by towels, on a couch. The treatment starts with the application of oil to the client’s skin with the therapist using her hands, then transferring heat from the stones gradually, by touching them. As they cool enough to handle the stones are used to provide a deep and comforting massage. The heat from the stones helps relax the whole body. Stones are also laid on the energy points of the body to help restore harmony and vitality. Crystal gemstones are also placed on the energy points bringing the body into balance and harmony. Essential oils can be incorporated into the hot stone treatment for added luxury and benefit. Hot stone massage can be a full body massage and include a hot and cold stone facial which has a decongesting effect, excellent for sinus problems. Or the massage can be a Stress Buster massage. This is a back, neck and shoulders massage followed by hot stone placement. After the massage the client is left to relax for 10 minutes in luxurious warmth with stones placed on their body. The effects of the massage are intensified by the warmth which can penetrate the tissue layers up to 4cm. This increases flexibility, boosts the immune system and aids detoxification. Indian Head Massage Indian Head Massage is a very ancient art which has its origins in traditional Indian system of medicine known as Ayurveda. This is the most ancient form of healing, with texts dating back thousands of years detailing the importance of massage. During an Indian Head Massage treatment it is not absolutely necessary for the client to disrobe, this therapy can be performed on a fully clothed client without using oils if prefered. If using oils, the client wears a wrap around the trunk of the body, only exposing the shoulders and upper back. The client sits in a chair and the practitioner applies pressure by way of massage to the scalp, face, head, shoulders and upper back. The treatment works on the muscles, pressure points, and energy centres in the head and shoulders. This helps to relieve tension, stimulates the whole body, and improves circulation and respiration. It also rebalances the body's natural energy system. Particularly beneficial for:-
