Marcie offers holistic / complementary therapies in Sherburn in Elmet and Tadcaster .... the following treatments are not massage based but are considered to be energy therapies
Reflexology
Reflexology, or Zone Therapy, is the practice of stimulating points on the feet to encourage beneficial effects within other parts of the body, or to promote overall improved health. The foot can be divided up into reflex zones corresponding to the energy zones in the body. Every organ can be found represented on the feet as they mirror the entire body. Reflexology can be carried out on the face, ears, hands or feet, but it is traditionally done on the feet as imbalances in the body show up better in the feet, due to the fact that they have about 7000 nerve endings.
The treatment starts with the client removing their footwear and the therapist warming up the feet as in a massage, then working on the reflex points of each foot in turn. These reflex points correspond to different parts of the body and are similar to the acupuncture points. Using pressure applied by the thumbs and fingers the therapist stimulates the body’s nervous and energy systems in a totally non-evasive way. Patterns of stress in other parts of the body are broken up and, during the detoxification process, are eliminated from the body. Reflexology itself is not a foot massage but the therapy does end with a relaxing foot and leg massage, with cream or lotion being applied.

Reiki
The word Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) derives from two Japanese characters or letters i.e. rei meaning universal and ki meaning energy.Reiki is a Universal healing energy available to all. Each Reiki practitioner has been ‘attuned’ to the energy by a Reiki Master. My particular form of Reiki is Usui Reiki which dates back to the late 1800s. Each Usui Reiki practitioner has a lineage which shows how they are connected to Dr Mikao Usui, the founder of the Usui System of Reiki. Please ask if you require proof of my lineage.
During a treatment the client relaxes fully clothed on a couch and can be covered with a blanket. The practitioner places their hands on or over the client and transmits healing energy through their hands. This energy flows to all parts of the client's body, activating the body's natural ability to heal itself. Reiki treats the whole person including the mind, body, spirit and emotions. This therapy harmonises and balances the whole body's energy, by allowing it to flow freely. The treatment will leave you feeling very relaxed.

Crystal Therapy
Crystal Therapy is the use of natural quartz crystals on or around the body to effect beneficial changes and re-dress imbalances. They boost low energy, screen out damaging energy, release stagnant or blocked energy and transform destructive patterns bringing the whole body into balance and harmony. Crystal therapy also incorporates colour therapy.Colour and light produce biochemical reactions in our bodies that stimulate the endocrine system and can make us feel happy or sad, healthy or sick, relaxed or tense.
Crystals are wonderful tools for balancing energy in our bodies, minds and emotions.Their unique properties make them invaluable in therapeutic work across a broad spectrum of ailments. Crystals can be used in healing work on animals, plants and the environment as well as on people. The uses of crystals in therapy are as varied as the types of crystals available. The Western world has only recently 'discovered' the wonderful properties they hold.Therapists use many crystal tools in their work ranging from small tumbled stones to large exotic massage wands from .During a treatment the client relaxes fully clothed on a couch, and the practitioner places crystals on to specific areas of the body. These crystals are left in place for several minutes giving the body time to absorb the energies.During this time there is the option of receiving Reiki.

Thermo-Auricular Therapy
Thermo-Auricular Therapy is also known as Hopi Ear Candling. This is an ancient therapy practiced by the Native American Hopi Tribe for hundreds of years. During the treatment the client relaxes fully clothed on a couch. Treatment starts with a short, gentle ear massage. The client then lies on their side, one end of a special hollow candle is gently placed in the outer ear passage and the other end is lit. A chimney effect is generated, gently removing debris, and inducing a warm pleasant feeling. Both ears are treated and the therapy ends with facial acupressure using firm but gentle pressure on points on the face, ears and scalp to help with natural drainage from ears, nose and throat. The therapy leaves the client feeling relaxed with a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is soothing and helpful for headache, earache and ear noise.
